India Agri & Food Updates - 28 April'15 !

1. After 10 years of market restrictions, apples from Argentina are on their way to India. The first shipment marks a heady start to a $200-million market for Argentina.

2. Government today acknowledged in Rajya Sabha that there are problems in effective implementation of Crop Insurance Scheme and warned of cancelling the licences of companies if such a request is received from any state government.

3. The Unified National Agriculture Market (UNAM), proposed by Finance Ministry in the Union Budget for 2015-16, may take time to evolve nationally, but Karnataka is already leading this silent movement with the online integration of many APMCs in the southern state.

4.  Spot pepper prices on Monday ruled steady on matching demand and supply. However, the active contracts on the IPSTA platform moved up so as to stay at par with the spot prices.

5. StarAgri Warehousing and Collateral Management, an Indian post-harvest management company, is launching StarAgri Finance to complement its existing services for farmers and agribusinesses.

6. Agriculture experts in both the private and government sectors must be incentivised to help train local Indian farmers to use new technologies and increase production accroding to Origo Commodities India, a post-harvest management company.
