India Agri & Food updates - 21April'15 !

1. India Farmers are not only cashing in on neera, the nutritious non-alcoholic drink tapped from coconut palms, but also turning their attention to its by-products such as sugar and honey, which are in good demand, particularly in Europe.

2. For agriculture development, Rajasthan to provide 5% subsidy to farmers on long-term cooperative loans.

3. Wheat procurement has almost "halted" in grain markets of Punjab due to strikes by transporters and labourers.

4. Providing relief to farmers affected by recent heavy rains and hailstorm, the Centre today further relaxed quality norms for the procurement of wheat in Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

5. Depreciating currencies in Russia, Europe and with a reduction in export incentive - to 3 per cent from 5 per cent - in the new foreign trade policy have landed Indian tea planters in a major problem. Overseas buyers are asking for good quality tea at a much lower price.

6. Indian Exporters are hopeful of resumption of rapeseed meal shipments to China over the next few months.
