India Agri & Food updates - 23 April'2015 !

1. In a bid to raise paddy productivity, Odisha government has stressed on chemical treatment of the seeds prior to sowing and introduction of drought-resistant and flood-prone varieties in calamity-prone districts.

2. Delhi fields shrink amid realty boom and water crisis.

3. The government today assured farmers that all necessary steps would be taken to mitigate the impact of any shortfall in rains attributing to poor monsoon.

4. An informal group of ministers headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss gas supply to three naphtha-based urea units - SPIC Tuticorin, MFL Manali and MCFL Mangalore.Besides, the urea policy and nutrient-based subsidy for Phosphatic and Potassic fertilisers will also be on the table.

9.  Indian farmers may have to shell out more for potash price this year following pressure from global sellers. This could add to their worries as they already face prospects of a below normal monsoon.
