India Agriculture & Food updates - 26June'2015 !

1. The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) has made a pitch for encouraging water use efficiency. As part of its non-price policy recommendations for kharif 2015-16, the body has suggested that States fix quantitative ceilings on per hectare use of  water and electricity.

2. It's been a month Kharif season has started in A.P state and the agricultural works are in a hopeful and prospective state.

3. Recognizing the Economic contribution of Garden and Fruit crops in the A.P state, the govt has paid special emphasis on this sector. Accordingly 2 service centers in every district are being implemented, which would provide tools on a rental basis.

4. An Aquapark is being envisaged by A.P state Govt in Godavari districts at an estimated cost of Rs.300 Crores.

5. Fruit traders in West Bengal have called for removal of inconsistencies in the export policy that grants subsidy on air and maritime export of fresh fruits but not on road freight.

6. In preperation for the upcoming rainy season and to prevent crop produce from rain drenching, Water proof  Tarpaulin sheets would be sold by Agriculture department at subsidized rates i.e. at 40% discount for  Big Faramers and 75% for Small Farmers while the original cost is Rs.2500.

7. Following up on its guarantee of providing ₹6,000-crore assistance to the beleaguered sugar industry, the Food Ministry released the notification of the scheme on Thursday.
