1. A group of American students from Michigan University led by an Indian has developed a low-cost way to improve the yield of agricultural produce for the farmers and reduce the use of fertilizers in Telangana through desilting of ponds, thus reducing the use of fertilizers by 36 per cent and increases the crop yield by nearly 50 per cent.

2. During the past two months, bullish speculators earned 10-36% returns on farm commodity futures like chana, coriander, mustard and castor on speculation of a poor monsoon.

3. India's sugar production is estimated to touch all time high of 28.3 MT in ongoing marketing year, 2014-15.

4. Madhya Pradesh government to continue loans to farmers at zero per cent via co-operatives.

5. The Agriculture Ministry is likely to announce the minimum support price (MSP) for key crops over the next two weeks, while it has sufficient stocks of pulses and willing to import more to quell prices that have risen nearly 64 per cent since last year.

6. The foodgrain bowl across the northwest region – Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh – is likely to be hit hardest according to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) second long range forecast of deficient rain during the four-month monsoon.

7. Nestle India faced the heat from all corners on Wednesday with its two-minute noodle brand ‘Maggi’ banned for 15 days in Delhi and the Centre moving the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
