India Agriculture & Food updates - 23June'15!

1. Indian flour millers and the local units of global trading giants have sewn up deals to import 500,000 tonnes of premium Australian wheat since March, trade sources said, the biggest such purchases in over a decade, despite surplus stocks at home.  Attractive prices then prompted traders such as Cargill , Louis Dreyfus and Glencore to follow, said three sources directly involved in the deals.

2. India's coffee output seen rising 9 per cent to record. The prospect of higher production may add to downward pressure on global markets.

3. Indian soybean production is likely to jump just over 10% in 2015 from a year ago to more than 10 mn tonnes.

4. India’s food watchdog will set up a working group to regulate the levels of sugar, salt and fat found in foods following one state’s crackdown on child nutrition.
