India Agriculture & Food updates - 14Aug'15 !

1. The ban on Maggi noodles has been lifted by an Indian court (Mumbai) but more testing must be done before it is allowed to return to the market.The Bombay high court has ruled that the chief executive of India’s food regulator, the FSSAI, had “acted in an emergent, drastic and arbitrary” fashion in ordering NestlĂ© to withdraw its popular Maggi noodles from the shelves in June.

2. NestlĂ© India has voiced its disappointment at the “unprecedented step” by the Indian government of going to the courts to seek nearly US$100m in damages for “unfair trade practices” in the wake of the Maggi noodles affair.

3. RBI hass announced that for the year 2015-16, on short term crop loans to be sanctioned by banks, the interest rates would be decreased by 2% and it would be additional 3% reduction for those farmers who does the repayments on schedule, thereby keeping the interest rate at just 4%.

4. Faced with fierce global competition, the onion dehydration units that convert the bulb into dry flakes and powder are now looking at the domestic market to sustain and expand their business.

5. Indian Met department forecasts a likely heavy rain over parts of peninsula, central India while the deficit is still at 9%.

6. Several large Indian hybrid seed makers, who had agreements with Mahyco Monsanto Biotech (MMB) for Bollgard technology (BT) cotton, have sought to amend royalty amounts trait value, citing price caps being fixed by various state governments.
