India Agriculture, Food & Nutrition updates - 26Aug'15 !

1. With measures of Export restrictions, Price Control and firm actions on Illegal Excess stock, Onion prices in the country have come down sharply by 5 to 10 Rs per kilogram.

2. After 130 years, a rare plant & flower species of Diplocentrin Recurvum has been spotted in Horeley Hills of Madanapalle area by Sri Venkateswara University researchers.

3. Commerce Ministry has hiked the minimum export price of onions by $275 per tonne to $700 per tonne to ensure adequate domestic supply.

4. The Maharashtra government, for the first time, will use two drones in the drought-hit Osmanabad district to survey crop losses.

5. The state Food and Supplies department has proposed to impose stock holding limit of 50 quintals of onion for wholesaler and 20 quintals for retailer.

6. As per APEC Climate Centre based in Busan, South Korea, a deficient August is likely to be followed by a forgettable September to round off this year’s South-West monsoon when it retreats fully from mainland India in another 35 days.
