India Agriculture, Food & Nutrition news - 19Aug'15 !

1. The Bombay high court has ruled that the chief executive of India’s food regulator, the FSSAI, had “acted in an emergent, drastic and arbitrary” fashion in ordering Nestlé to withdraw its popular Maggi noodles from the shelves in June.

2. Mondelēz did not breach competition rules following a complaint from a distributor it was placing unfair terms on rural stockists, rule Indian authorities.

3. Indian nutraceuticals market to touch $6bn by 2020.

4. Despite efforts by Indian government agencies to protect consumer rights in case of food products, existing legal provisions show how consumers are at the mercy of retailers and state agencies if they suspect a product is unsafe.

7. Industry body SOPA has requested the Government to increase the customs duty on crude and refined edible oils by another 30%.

8. With onion prices going through the roof, traders from Punjab have started importing the crop from Afghanistan.
