India Agriculture & Food Updates - 15July'15 !

1. The central government is planning to spend Rs 50,000 crore on farming and irrigation sector besides rolling out a crop insurance scheme.

2. Wheat procurement by State agencies and the Food Corporation of India has crossed 280 lakh tonnes wheat.

3. With retail inflation inching up, contrary to expectations of a downward movement, industry body ASSOCHAM warns of 10-15% hike in onion prices.

4. Display of 'Aeroponics' soilless agriculture, will be the major technology to be displayed at the 15th Edition of the four day agricultural trade fair, 'Agri Intex 2015' which will begin at Coimbatore from July 17.

5. The farmers and traders dealing in agricultural market are now facing tremendous recession due to a long dry spell, the market sources said.

6. While Groundnut cultivation in Chittoor District of A.P. is expected to be 1,36,737 hectares, so far only 81,172 hectares is being cultivated due to delayed rains.
