India Agriculture, Food & Health News - 02July'15 !

1. The central government today approved the setting up of an online national agriculture market that will provide more options to farmers for selling their produce across the country, which would help them overcome the issue of paying various taxes at Mandis or market committees.

2. Global prices of agricultural items are expected to decline gradually over the next 10 years as growth in production is likely to exceed demand, according to a latest report released by OECD and FAO.

3. The central Food Minister mentioned that Over 2,000 Food Corporation of India depots would go online by March 2016.

4. Non-basmati rice exporters fear that the currency crisis in Nigeria could pull down shipments of the grain by up to a tenth this year, as Nigeria recently stopped dollar sales to importers of rice and other commodities in the country, to protect its dwindling forex reserves and boost domestic cereal production.

5. In order to reduce the farm sector’s dependence on the monsoon, the Centre today approved 'Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)' scheme for providing irrigation facilities to every village by converging the ongoing schemes being implemented by various ministries, with a budget allocation of  Rs. 1,000 crore.

6. A farmers’ body approached the National Green Tribunal against the demolition drive on their farms carried out by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in pursuance of the green panel’s ban order on cultivation of edible crop on floodplains of Yamuna.

7. Mango output in Chittoor district has decreased this to a total of 4.56 lakh tonnes as against the expectation of 6.08 lakh tonnes due to Intense summer and untimely rains.

8. The State Govt. of A.P plans to provide Zinc, Zipsum and Boron at 50% subsidy through Agriculture Department.

9. Groundnut cultivation is being covered under Climate Crops Insurance Program and farmers can pay Rs.550 insurance per acre, by providing necessary documentation to the local agricultural office.

10. Britains Food Certification Agency (FCA) has confirmed that Maggie noodles produced and exported from India meets the necessary led levels.
