India Agri & Food Updates - 27Feb'15 !

1. As per Railway Ministry, Urea prices will not increase for farmers even as freight charges have been hiked on the nutrient by 10 per cent in the Rail Budget.

2. The ban on the export of shark fins by the Central Government is unlikely to deeply hurt India’s booming seafood exports, says Seafood Exporters Association of India.

3. The United Planters' Association of Southern India is hoping that the Government would intervene and enhance the import duty on natural rubber to 30 per cent from the existing 20 per cent in the forthcoming Budget to save the domestic rubber industry.

4. As per Food Secretary, Private traders can export wheat under the open general licence (OGL) scheme. The government will not export its surplus wheat stock this year and will continue to offload the grain in the domestic market despite estimates of bumper wheat production.

5. Even as the area under plantation shrank 2.3%, the quality of wheat crop in the country, the world's second-largest grower of the grain, is expected to improve this year.

6. The govt has asked state-run FCI not to purchase foodgrains in states like Punjab and Haryana as the procurement system is fully developed there.Both states contribute 3/4th of the total procurement.

7. Indian Arabica coffee turns costly for the world, exports down 20%.

8. Asia’s food colourings market will grow to over half a billion dollars by 2019 at a time when India is struggling to break away from the synthetic products it traditionally uses in favour of natural colourings.
