1. Overall diet quality worsened across the world even as consumption of healthier foods increased in many countries, according to a new global report of dietary patterns.

2. Black tea may help lower blood pressure for people with elevated levels, says a new study from Unilever R&D that adds to the potential health benefits of the beverage and its constituents.

3. High demand for meat alternatives is driving plant-based protein brands, such as Quorn and Alpro, to double their output as per industry bosses.

4. McCormick & Company has bought Italian spices business Drogheria & Alimentari (D&A) for €85M (£62.5M) in a deal it claims will boost the portfolio it offers retailers and manufacturers.

5. Aldi has seized 8% of the UK rapeseed market through a single £1.2M deal with Phoenix Speciality Oils.
