1. The Central Govt has decided to pay a production subsidy of ₹4.50/quintal directly to cane farmers in the 2015-16 season to ensure they get timely payment of arrears amounting to over ₹7,000 crore owed by sugar mills. The move is expected to cost the exchequer about ₹1,147 crore.
2. Potato output to take a hit this season (U.P, West Bengal & Punjab) over bad weather, lack of interest among farmers, prices might as well go up soon.
3. The spike in tomato prices to over Rs 60 per kg due to disrupted supplies from rain-hit South India is "temporary" and rates are expected to ease in coming days, government said.
4. As per an ASSOCHAM study, sugar prices may rise next year as its production is expected to come down, while at the same time farmers are shifting to other crops.
5. Over 5,366 tonnes of pulses have been offloaded in the markets so far out of a total 1.32 lakh tonnes seized from hoarders in raids conducted by the states, a move aimed at boosting supply and easing prices.
6. Continued Torrential rains in the Coastal Andhra Pradesh region (Nellore District) affected 900 crores worth Aquaculture segment.
