Global Agriculture, Food & Nutrition udpates - 23Nov'15 !

1. USDA injects $56m to improve Ghana poultry sector and the funding is targeted at improving poultry health and feed stocks.

2. Cultivian Sandbox leads $5 million raise for Los Alamos-based data analysis company Descartes Labs,  to convert a glut of agriculture data into useful information for precision agriculture.

3. USDA (U.S.Department of Agriculture) commits $350m to preserve farmland.

4. While investors from China and several other countries has shown interest, Australia blocks sale of S Kidman & Co Farm Lands to foreign investors.

5. Malnourished children in Kenya are to receive €4.5m nutrition supplements as part of a UNICEF-backed programme.

6. After an “exhaustive and rigorous scientific review” the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has finally given AquaBounty Technologies the green light to introduce the first genetically engineered (GE) animal (Salamon Fish) to the human food supply.

7. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded that glyphosate, a herbicide used on food crops, is unlikely to cause cancer and recommends raising safety levels.

8.  In fiscal year (FY) 2015, U.S. agriculture and related exports to China totaled $25.9 billion, comprising approximately 16 percent of all U.S. agricultural exports.
