Global Agri & Food Updates - 07March'15 !

1. The fund of funds house (WP Global) was awarded $130m in Agri mandates by two European institutions and hopes to have $250m in agri-dedicated AUM by end of 2015.

2. Conterra Asset Management entered into a joint venture with Farmer Mac to provide fee appraisal services for farmland owners (Agri Loans Business) and is targeting a $100m first close of its agribusiness PE fund later this year.

3. The Dutch VC firm (Anterra Capital) has invested $5.6m into LemnaTec, the agricultural data analysis and phenomics company.

4. TNA has acquired Florigo International, in The Netherlands, taking advantage of its vacuum technology which allows manufacturers to cook products at a lower temperature, claiming to reduce the formation of acrylamide by up to 95%.

5. Eleven dairies, including Danone, NestlĂ© and Lactalis, have been fined nearly €90m for allegedly colluding on the price paid to Spanish farmers for raw milk (unpasteurised milk).

6. According to Chicago-based market research firm IRI, US retail (dollar) sales of foods & beverages rose 2.1% in 2014, while unit sales edged up just 0.9%. By contrast, sales of natural and organic brands grew more than 10%.

7. USDA will be awarding over $30 million in grants to help schools prepare healthy meals for their children. $25 million in grants will help schools purchase needed equipment to make preparing and serving healthier meals easier and more efficient, and up to $5.5 million will provide additional training for school food service professionals.
