1. India, the world's biggest importer of pulses, is considering a 10 per cent tax on overseas purchases of pulses to support local farmers.
2. With rise in Price Levels, cardamom and pepper growers in India were happy this year. Black pepper prices rose to a record of around Rs.700 a kg, while cardamom fared at an average of Rs.750 a kg due to shortfall in production.
3. To curb black-marketing the Chemical & Fertilizers ministry released a record of 3.7 million tonnes (mt) of Urea/Fertilizers into the market by stepping up imports during the month of Dec'14.
4. Representatives of the Nilgiris Nelikolu Micro and Small Tea Growers and Farmers’ Development (NSTF) Society urged the Government to pass orders announcing at least Rs.25/kg for green tea leaf.
